| IT’S BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE THE MY FOOTBALL MANAGER PORTAL WAS LAUNCHED! |
I thought that this round anniversary was a good time to play a unique career. Not obvious. And educational. I hope that the facts included in this blog will interest many of you and will encourage you to explore the history of football. A history that is fascinating and allows one to gain a healthy perspective on what is "here and now." Especially since this "here and now" is not always edifying.
| MINOR LEAGUE OF CRAP PLAYERS |
I am writing these words on April 1, 2025. Right after the 26th round of the league, an influential thinker once referred to the “Ekstraklasa.” In the old, beautiful and successful times that passed too quickly, it was “only” the first league. However, it created finalists and semi-finalists for the most important European Cups (Górnik, Legia, Widzew). And gave players to the national team that was third in the world twice. Now, the “Ekstraklasa” creates teams that “bravely” fight in the third, lowest level of European competition (Conference League) – a creation intended solely to serve as a fig leaf for the rich, who have been reaping the wealthiest rewards for over 30 years. And they leave crumbs from the master’s table for the poor.
In this regard, the poor should be able to take care of their interests, just like Dinamo Zagreb, which sells domestic talents for substantial amounts of money. Then, it produces new ones. Unfortunately, Polish clubs cannot and do not want to. It turned out that even a good and valuable regulation on youth players hindered them. The result? After 26 rounds of the "Ekstraklasa", there is not a single Polish striker among the top scorers! None of them managed to score more than five goals! The lineups of POLISH teams are full of foreign junk. Players that no one in well-established clubs and leagues has ever been interested in.

This career is a voice of protest against the politics of most of our football clubs. And an attempt to show that it can be done differently. In the Polish league, young, talented Polish players should be given a chance. And in my team, they will get a chance. Moreover, the only non-negotiable limitation of this "anniversary" football manager adventure will be nationality. I will employ only Polish players and staff exclusively.
| AN INSPIRATION - INFO ABOUT THE RECONSTRUCTION OF SKRA STADIUM |
At the end of last year, I came across an article about the planned and commenced reconstruction and modernisation of the Skra Stadium.
It was there, on Wawelska Street, that Warszawianka found its home before the Second World War! It was there that their elegant club building was located in the thirties and where they played most of their league matches.
After the war, Skra Warszawa took over the area, and even in the 1980s, it was an excellent, well-kept sports centre:

Once upon a time, before regaining statehood, there were two teams, Polonia and Slavia. At some point, young high school students from Slavia decided to start training with Polonia and gave up their separateness. They functioned in Polonia as a youth team. Here's what happened next:
Warszawianka has its date of birth – it is Sunday, November 27, 1921, and not November 22, as all studies, even club anniversary publications, wrongly state. ‘At 10 ½ in the morning’, the members met at a general meeting and approved the statute. The date and circumstances of the club’s foundation are known and not questioned by anyone, although already at the end of 1911 in the Warszawskie Koło Sportowe (it must be treated as the club of that time) there was a team called ‘Warszawianka’, next to ‘Polonia’ or ‘Korona’ – however, it never occurred to anyone to make this fact older by… ten years; as we write elsewhere, this fact alone is enough for Polonia fans to look for the date of the club’s foundation in 1911!
Warszawianka was created from Polonia, a club founded in 1915 when a group of young players felt offended by the decision of the general meeting and demonstratively surrendered their membership cards. Allegedly, they left the meeting singing ‘Warszawianka’ to the music of Karol Kurpiński from 1831, with the words ‘|Hey, who is a Pole, on bayonets”, but the memories also mention the motif of a well-known song of PSL (Polish People's Party) – ‘Oh, hello magnates’.
The incident was that the second youth team, without the consent of the club’s authorities, played a match with the Maccabi team. The Polonia authorities took care of order and compliance with the regulations, while those punished, without questioning the offence, considered the punishment disproportionately severe, taken in violation of the principles of democratic procedure. However, Piotr Karkosik, the author and creator of the most solid studies on the history of Warsaw clubs, Polonia and Warszawianka, rightly notes in ‘Echo’ (no. 4 of 1990), that the school Slavia, where the ‘rebels’ came from, fought for the right to develop their sports talents in a way that would be worthy of them.
Slightly older colleagues blocked the path to the first Polonia club team, and the level of play of youths and first team players almost entirely equalled. The departure of Polonia by rebellious younger footballers calmed down the first team players and gave the youths a chance to show themselves in the newly established club. However, it took almost a year before all formalities were completed. The memorable Sunday, November 27, 1921, marked the uprising of Warszawianka at the apartment of Zofia Luxenburg, mother of the most active secessionists, Stanisław and Jan.
The actual date of the club's foundation was November 27, 1921; however, the first meeting was held on January 14, 1921. The meeting was chaired by a 17-year-old Stanisław Luxenburg.
Jan Luxenburg suggested the club's name, and Wiktor Loth designed its crest. The latter is the only one of the four famous brothers who left Polonia.

| WARSZAWIANKA - THE ONLY CLUB OF ITS KIND |
Warszawianka was most famous for its pre-war athletes, including the immortal Janusz Kusociński and his great rival, Stanisław Petkiewicz. However, the footballers also achieved something exceptional – as the only club from the capital, the Pride of Warsaw (or simply: the Black-Whites) has never been relegated from the highest league. From the moment the league was established in 1927, it remained intact for 12 seasons (in 1939, for obvious reasons, the league was not completed).
As shown above, the team never ranked among the top teams (the highest position was 5). However, it also did not allow itself to be excluded from the national elite. And such misfortune befell Polonia Warszawa (1932 and 1935) and Legia (1936)!
| WARSZAWIANKA AND LEGIA MADE THEIR DEBUT TOGETHER |
We are all familiar with the reputation Legia Warszawa has today. It is probably the most recognisable Polish club. However, it is worth taking a closer look at the level from which it started. Few people remember that both Warszawianka and Legia made their league debut... together! The event took place on Sunday, April 3, 1927, at 3:30 p.m. Legia was theoretically the host. Still, the game was played at Agrykola, because the "military" pitch (DOK - District Command of the Corps) was of an exceptionally low standard. Warszawianka completely dominated the game and scored 4:1. The first goal was scored by left winger Jan Luxenburg in the 57th minute with a shot directly from... a corner kick! The shot was missed by Tadeusz (who used the name Marian, though) Bednarowicz. It was the only match for Legia in the league where this goalkeeper played. Approximately 2,000 fans attended the game, and the football referee from Lviv, Emil Niedźwirski, blew the whistle.

Notes:
1. Wacław Przeździecki (1907-1979) scored a goal for Legia, and his younger brother, Henryk (1909-1977), also played for the club.
2. Ryszard Braun (1908-1995) played for Warszawianka, and his older brother, Henryk (1906-1989), also played for the club.
3. Symplicjusz Zwierzewski (1903-1986), also known as Symplicjurz Zwierz, was one of the best central midfielders of the interwar period. He was a legend of Warszawianka, with the highest number of 168 league appearances (during which he scored 25 goals), and a representative of Poland, having played 3A matches plus 1 match considered unofficial today. He changed his surname to Zwierzewski in 1932. His brother, Stefan (1900-1955), also played for Warszawianka, but he kept his original personal details.
4. Kazimierz Wiśniewski from Warszawianka (1908-75), often referred to in the interwar press by the alias "Sącz".

Goalkeeper Stefan Domański played the most games in the national team (6 caps between 1924 and 1934). He also has three games considered unofficial today (in 1926 and 1928 against an amateur team from Czechoslovakia and in 1929 against an amateur team from Austria).
An interesting situation occurred in October 1928. On Saturday, the 27th, Poland played against the first national team of Czechoslovakia (2:3), and a day later against amateurs (0:1). Both matches took place in Prague at Letná. That's what I call a busy weekend! In the first match, Domański played for 90 minutes; in the second, he replaced Mieczysław Szumiec in the 22nd minute. On October 28, 1928, the famous Wacław Kuchar played for the national team for the last time. It was also the only time Legia's excellent striker, Marian Łańko, played.
Years later, the Polish Football Association, inspired by Gowarzewski, deemed this match "unofficial," even though the first team was participating. Was it against amateurs? Even if that were the case, how does it matter? On November 1, 1906, the French lost to the amateur English team 0:15. Today, it would be convenient for them to lump this inglorious defeat into the "unofficial matches" category ("because they played with 'amateurs', who had nothing to do with the first team" - this is Gowarzewski's reasoning!), but they don't do that! Including a note next to the opponent - amateurs - is enough! However, on the French side, their first team was playing, so for them, the match was "official" - as simple as that! I wrote about it HERE.

| WARSZAWIANKA AFTER THE WAR – THE FALL |
After the war, the football section of Warszawianka never advanced beyond the third level of pyramid. In 1975, it was finally dissolved. And yet, the city did not skimp on funds. The fascists indeed destroyed the pre-war estates of the Pride of Warsaw on Wawelska Street, and then a new stadium of Skra Warszawa was built there. However, on Merlini Street in Mokotów, beautifully integrated into the escarpment, new facilities were put into use (1961):

At this point, football history is replaced by a project born in my imagination.
How is it possible that such a large city as Warsaw has only one decent club?! Let's be honest: there is Legia in the capital of Poland, then there is a considerable gap and finally, Polonia, which is attended by a handful of spectators. Even when they won the championship in the 1999/00 season, the maximum number of fans attending matches was 5,000. And sometimes only half of this number... In the following season (2000/01), the European Cup battles had to be moved to Płock because Polonia didn’t have another option. It is rather shocking and miserable.
In turn, Gwardia Warsaw, the team that was the first to represent us in the European Cup, was brought to ruin even though the famous PiS "president" admitted being their fan. Are there any other teams? Unfortunately no!!!! There are Hutnik, Ursus, Olimpia, Drukarz, Okęcie, Marymont, Korona, and Znicz near Warsaw, but I’m only mentioning these as a joke…
Warszawianka must become the second most important team in Warsaw, with the ambition to surpass Legia and become the first.

Thinking about the inspiration... I imagined that the capital city council made a wise decision and decided to return the lands taken after the war to Warszawianka – namely, the areas where the ruined Skra stadium was located. An anonymous group of sponsors reactivated the football section of the Warszawianka Sports Club and financed the construction of a modern, intimate facility with 14,500 seats.

The new facility was named "Luxenburg Arena" to honour the family that had the most significant influence on the creation of Warszawianka in 1921. Stanisław and Jan were among the most active secessionists, and it was in the apartment of their mother, Zofia, that the founding meeting of the new club took place. The wartime fate of this family was tragic. Only Jan, a participant in the September Campaign, survived and - wounded - was sent to the Murnau Oflag. Honour Their Memory!
| WARSZAWIANKA IN THE TOP LEAGUE AGAIN |
It's just for fun, so I'll write perversely: Lech Poznań is actually (according to the letter of the law) - Amica Wronki. After all, it plays under the license of the Wronki club! As a part of our storytelling, let's assume that Puszcza Niepołomice, which entered the "Ekstraklasa" after the playoffs, did not find the funds to play among the best – and sold the license to Warszawianka.
| LEŚNODORSKI IS BACK IN ACTION AGAIN |
Bogusław Leśnodorski has been appointed chaiman of the reactivated club and will be assisted by Dominik Ebebenge.
I consider Leśnodorski the best president since 1989, i.e. after the political transformation. This is despite the fact that I am closer to his grandfather's views than those he occasionally expresses.
| THE POOREST CLUB IN THE EKSTRAKLASA |
A group of sponsors contributed just enough to complete the squad for the debut season, and they paid a very modest amount. The highest salary may currently be around €50,000 per year (around 20,000 PLN per month). Warszawianka is the poorest club in the league and, according to bookmakers, is guaranteed to be relegated.

I have adopted a rule that before the first season, only those players who are "free agents" on the official 24.3.0 update can sign a contract with the club. That means they have no job. A similar rule applies to the staff.

First, the staff:
Players.
Goalkeepers:
Dorian Ciężkowski. He left Progres Kraków for Italy (Hellas Verona) as a sixteen-year-old but did not break through.
Jakub Bursztyn. He certainly expected more when he moved to Pogoń. Meanwhile, he couldn't even come to terms with Skra Częstochowa, where he finally started playing.
Bartłomiej Maliszewski. Leaving as a kid from Jagiellonia to a club where he could watch Buffon, he most likely dreamt bigger. He also slipped through the Lazio U-19 and eventually disappeared. Supposedly, Stal Mielec tested him.
Defenders:
Konrad Budek. Ten years ago, he apprenticed at Legia, but his most significant success came in the 1st league (second level) with Zagłębie Sosnowiec.
Konrad Kostrzycki. A product of the club's youth system of GKS Bełchatów, he reached the 1st league, where he represented Odra Opole.
Paweł Sasin. A solid league player, now 39 years old. He has not been seen in the Ekstraklasa since the 2016/17 season (Górnik Łęczna).
Gracjan Szyszka. A product of the club's youth system of FASE Szczecin, he tried to break through in Italy (SPAL, Cosenza), but with no success. He only played for Matese in Serie D.
Konrad Plewa. An interesting character, little known in the country. When he was young, he moved to the USA and played football at the university level. In 2016, while he was a player of the New York Red Bulls reserves, he suffered a stroke. He played a few matches in the famous, reactivated Cosmos New York.
Krystian Nowak. He played in the Ekstraklasa during the 2012/13 season with Widzew. His path then became rather unusual, involving participation in leagues in exotic locations such as Scotland, Greece, Croatia, Romania, and Ireland.
Dawid Witkowski. A product of the club's youth system of Legia, but he only reached the 1st league (Bytovia, GKS Jastrzębie).
Adrian Klimczak. He was best known for his performances in ŁKS. Most recently, he defended the colours of Wieczysta.
Oskar Nowak. A native of Poznań who has spent time with Warta and Lech. His most tremendous success, however, was a few first-league appearances for Wigry Suwałki.
Midfielders:
Dominik Wołowski. A product of the club's youth system of Bałtyk Gdynia, which was only in the fourth level of the pyramid.
Łukasz Piątek. Experienced, 37-year-old footballer best known for playing for Polonia Warszawa and Zagłębie Lubin. He was in the Ekstraklasa for the last time in the 2019/20 season (ŁKS).
Dominik Furman. Former international player (3 caps). a product of the club's youth system of Legia, he then had an unsuccessful episode in Toulouse and returned to Waesaw. He parted ways with Wisła Płock in turbulent circumstances. He won the case in the Football Arbitration Court, proving that his contract with the club was unfairly terminated. Moreover, it was announced that the special resolution of the Polish Football Association meant that Polish footballers were treated unequally when compared with foreign players.
Marcel Kroczek. He participated in the famous Bayern Munich academy.
Tymoteusz Klupś. I have a soft spot for this player since FM 2019 and La Pologne career. Unfortunately, a product of the club's youth system of Lech did not progress as expected. However, when I saw him among the unemployed players, he immediately got a job at Warszawianka!
Michał Masłowski. He was an up-and-coming player ten years ago, who coach Nawałka called up to the national team (3 caps). Legia paid €800,000 for him, but - unfortunately – he didn’t cope mentally. He last played in... the fifth level of the pyramid in Gwardia Koszalin.
Adrian Mierzejewski. Despite being 36 years old, he was the biggest star of my team! A fantastic player (41 caps - 3 goals), who Adam Nawałka did not see in the national team. Adrian earned a fortune while playing in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Australia and China. He planned to retire at the beginning of 2024. However, I managed to convince him to postpone it by four months.
Marcel Zylla. A product of the club's youth system of Bayern Munich, he moved to Śląsk Wrocław with great hopes. Unfortunately, his career didn't progress as he had dreamed.
Aleksander Jagiełło. Once a hot prospect for the future of Legia, he was unfortunately unable to make his debut in the Ekstraklasa in the club's colours. However, he can add the 2013 Polish Cup to his CV. In the 2018/19 season, he became the Polish champion with Piast Gliwice!
Daniel Smuga. He performed in Ekstraklasa matches for Górnik Zabrze a few years ago but then entered a downward spiral.
Strikers:
Jakub Brdak. A product of the club's youth system of Stomil Olsztyn was considered a great talent. So, why hasn't his contract been extended?
Jarosław Niezgoda. He had a good time at Ruch and Legia Warsaw. In 2020, Portland Timbers paid almost 3.5 million euros for him. In America, he tore his cruciate ligaments twice, and the club was not interested in extending his contract. On January 1, 2024, Niezgoda became a free agent. He is one of our greatest hopes for maintaining the league's existence.
Filip Piszczek. In Poland, we became familiar with him mainly through his performances in Cracovia. After a stint in Jagiellonia, he went to the Japanese third league, Imabari. It was a strange transfer, to say the least... Would Warszawianka finally be the place to see a breakthrough in his career?

W tym miejscu chciałbym raz jeszcze podziękować Annie Mróz, będącej pracownikiem naukowym jednego z najlepszych (pierwsza ttrójka!) uniwersytetów świata. Chodzi oczywiście o słynny londyński The Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine. Ania ma na swoim koncie nie tylko doktorat, ale też ok. 30 publikacji naukowych i zajmuje odpowiedzialne stanowisko Research Managera.
Słowem - osoba niezwykle kompetentna, której obecność na naszym portalu i okazywane wsparcie to prawdziwy zaszczyt.

Mieszkam w Wielkiej Brytanii od ponad 15 lat, uważam, że moja znajomość języka angielskiego jest naprawdę niezła, nie czuje się jednak 100-procentowo mocny we wszystkich gramatycznych niuansach. Dlatego jestem bardzo wdzięczny Ani, która podjęła się przetłumaczyć tekst.
W toku konsultacji niektóre rzeczy zmienialiśmy, ponieważ - wiadomo - język "futbolowy" nie zawsze jest tożsamy z tym używanym w codziennych sytuacjach.

A co Ty takiego dla tego portalu zrobiłeś?? Przez 10 lat napisałeś jednego bloga. Ja tam kojarzę Cię jako wyjątkowego bufona, który nigdy nic ciekawego nie miał do napisania, za to skłócał wszystkich ze wszystkimi dookoła. I naprawdę masz dużo tupetu, żeby szczekać coś na @przeminho, który jest jednym z najlepszych redaktorów MFM od czasów @Nascimento1998. Schowaj się do dziury i więcej nie wychylaj, bo nawet to co piszesz to chamstwo i prostactwo.
Przepraszam redakcję z offftop, ale wkurzył mnie ten koleś. Materiał oczywiście świetny, wolę nie myśleć, ile godzin pracy wymagał.

Nie warto Eli, ja mam gruba skórę, kolega Egurian ma już kolejny raz do mnie jakieś pretensje, najwyraźniej za to, ze istnieje :) ubawiło mnie to ,,jakiś" hehe, ludzie to maja problemy życiowe...
Ja nie jestem łasy na stanowiska, jeśli pojawiłby się ktoś konkretny w redakcji to dla mnie wystarczy możliwość opiekowania się strona FMowa i dodatkami. Nabory były, ale chyba niestety bez większego odzewu.
A sam dwujęzyczny blog to super sprawa, przecież angielski to język ogólnoświatowy.
